"I AM"

I am the father who will never again
play a game of catch with my son.

I am the mother who will never get
to see my daughter go to her prom.

I am the neighbor who will never cut
my grass or tend to my garden.

I am the cab driver who will never
tell a funny joke to brighten your day.

I am the co-worker that will not be
there to talk as we walk into work.

I I am the brother who won't be seen
jogging along my favorite streets.

I am the sister who will not give my
kid brother advise on dating.

I am the daughter whose hopes and
dreams will never be realized.

I am the son that will not be there
to hug my elderly dad and mom.

I am the grandfather who will never again
snuggle with my grandchild on my lap
as we read a funny book.

I am the grandmother who will not be there
to hear the cry my "new born" grandchild.

I am the crafter who will never feel safety
as I go to the craft store to buy things.

I am the child who is fighting for my life.
If prayers are answered and I live, my
innocence can never be restored.

I am just like you. My age, gender,
ethnic background and religion may
be the same as yours.

All of these people ( James, Sarah, Lori, PascaL, Dean, Kenneth, Linda and others) are victims of a cowardly, mass murderer. There only crime was going about their daily business.  There are families and friends who are suffering an almost inconsolable grief, much as the families and friends who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001.

As I watched the news of each of these innocent people being shot like cardboard bodies in some perverse shooting gallery, I grew angry thinking this indiscriminate murderer who will kill anyone who happens to show up in the site of his weapon.

I then became so incredibly sad and moved to tears as we all started to hear who these people were.  After hearing about Linda Franklin it was more than I could handle.  Her friends spoke of her as a smart yet funny co-worker.  They also mentioned her winning  a fight with breast cancer.  She and her husband were at Home Depot to buy some last minute things for the new house they would have moved into this coming weekend.  Her husband stood helplessly by her side unable to save her life.

You might wonder what any of us can do at a time like this.  I do not know of any fund that has been set up for the families of these people.  It is possible that locally things are being done to help.  I am just a simple daughter, sister, niece, cousin, mother and most importantly grandmother.  As I was driving home looking at our beautiful Texas sky  God spoke to me.   He said, "I am the great I am!"  I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.  You are only looking at things through you eyes.  While you see things you cannot understand: I see everything because I have been here from the beginning and know all that is to be.

As I thought about this my mind was flooded once more by a loving God.  My child, I know  and love every person love every person involved in this.  Trust me when I tell you that I sent angels to comfort them in their final moments.  I also have angels around the little boy watching over him.  My arms are wrapped tightly around the family and friends of those who perished.  Someday order will be made out of all this confusion.  You ask what you can do.  You can PRAY!

I then thought of one of my favorite Bible verses.  It is found in the book of Romans, Chapter 8, verses 38-39

For I am persuaded, that neither death, not life, nor angels, not principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any creature, can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

If you are so moved, please join me in praying for everyone involved in these shootings.   Also, please pray for the various law enforcement agencies that are working hard to catch this person and stop another person from being injured or killed.  Finally, and this may be the hardest, pray that the person or persons doing this have a change of heart and turn themselves in.  Thanks!
